Overpopulation

"By the time you finish reading this sentence, the population will have grown 15 people"

Overpopulation is growing problem throughout the world. In China families are restricted to just one child, and are very strict in enforsing the law. Most issues are built on the fact of overpopulation such as hunger and homelessness. Some, however, believe laws that restrict humans from the amount of babies they have is wrong and even takes away some constitutional rights.

Experts predict the world’s population will follow one of three different scenarios. The first is called the High Scenario. This is the prediction that after some amount of time, the world’s population will sky rocket to almost 11 billion people. Next is the medium scenario, where the world’s population will get to a point where after the years, the population will not increase, but will stay steady. Last there is the low scenario. This prediction is after so many years the amount of people will fall to just under five billion people.

So if the problems associated with overpopulation are so obvious, for what reason is there an issue at all? Should people not take it upon themselves to do something? Absolutely, but the problem is that we are only individuals, and most people think that by themselves, they cannot change anything.

In China today, families are strongly forced, according to Marilyn Rose, to only have one child per family. She says, "It is financially impossible to live with more than one child because the Communist government taxes those families much higher than couples with one child or no children at all." We need some solutions.

Some United Nations governments are starting to attack the overpopulation problems. Also groupslike Z.P.G., and N.P.G., are educating people about family planning. Also most Adoption agencies urge people to adopt instead of having a child because of the abundant number of children who have no families or places to live.

Science can also be a solution. Can we depend on mother nature to balance the scale of resources and life? A great famine in the world would definitely lower the population when there is finally too many people for Earth. So do we wait until the time comes and let nature take its course?

The third solution is the most feared. If the issue was too many animals, we could kill them as they do in Yellowstone Park every few years to thin the herds. Who would make the final call on life or death for humans? If the population continues to increase, could this be in our future?

People do not realize the importance in the amount of people that are on the Earth. Our planet can not handle too many people. Our planet does not have the resources to support the billions of people it is predicted to have in the future. Each generation uses more resources than the previous generation. Our planet will not last when we have 327 people per square mile, as there already is in China. We need to do something.
